Bladder Infections

I am in a new, long-distance relationship and suffering badly, for the first time in my life, from cystitis. I have been drinking cranberry juice but cannot seem to break the cycle of infection. Help!

Although more common in women, bladder infections - which are usually caused by the bacterium, Escherichia coli (E. coli) - can make life miserable for both sexes.

Characterised by an urgent desire to empty the bladder, urination is, typically, both frequent and painful. Telltale signs of an infection include strong-smelling and cloudy urine.

Cranberry juice, even the commercial variety which contains sugar, will help - but for a chronic infection, you should try UTI-Care; a brand new supplement which combines cranberry with a number of approved homeopathic remedies to help clear the urinary tract of infection, plus a less well known agent called D-mannose which can stop E. coli from sticking to the bladder wall and multiplying there in the first place.

D-mannose is a simple plant sugar and so, unlike the conventional antibiotic treatments for this condition, will not wipe out so called “friendly” bacteria as well as those causing the problem which means you will not suffer additional unwanted side-effects.

UTI-Care costs £15.95 for 60 capsules and is available in the UK from Victoria Health (0800 413596). To tackle a chronic infection, take three capsules, three times a day. To help prevent re-infection, take one capsule twice a day.
