Treatment programme for psoriasis
I have had psoriasis for 20 years on my elbows, knuckles and knees. Next year, I am going to treat myself to a residential treatment programme. Can you recommend any clinics, especially those with an interest in an alternative approach? I am prepared to travel anywhere in the world.
The first place you need to travel is London to see the holistic skin specialists at The Alternative Centre (020-7381 2298) not least because they have strong links with some of the Dead Sea clinics in Israel and Jordan.
Sandra Gibbons, co-founder of the pioneering Centre which specialises in treating eczema and psoriasis with natural remedies, warns that you will benefit much more in the long-term if you adopt an holistic approach to the problem before you fly out to be treated as an in-patient at any overseas clinic.
She says: “The first step is to assess your condition and to get you started on a detox programme to start the healing from the inside. This also means that when you do go out to the Dead Sea, where the sunshine can complete the healing on the outside, you can go without the pressure of looking for a cure.”
There is, of course, no cure for psoriasis. Instead, you can use natural therapies to manage the condition and keep your skin clear. What you are aiming for is a kind of remission but according to Sandra Gibbons, many of those who head off for the Dead Sea without doing the preparatory work first find their complaint quickly returns once they are home again.
A three-week, all-inclusive stay at a five-star hotel at the Dead Sea will cost in the region of £800 which is excellent value and patients exposed to the intense sunlight on both the Israeli and Palestinian shores report an 85% recovery rate so I am sure, your trip when you do eventually make it, will be well worth the time and expense.
