Vaccinations and homeopathy
My two children, aged six and two-and-a-half, are having their first measles vaccinations in a month’s time. My older child has always reacted badly to any inoculations and my youngest is prone to bronchial infections, which take a long time to clear. What can I do to prepare them for these vaccinations and what can they take afterwards to help their recovery?
Children (like animals) respond fantastically well to homeopathy, and since you already know your eldest child has a history of adverse reactions to inoculations and that your youngest is prone to chest infections, I would find a homeopath in your area who can take a full medical history and then prescribe what is known as a constitutional remedy for each child.
You can also use Sambucol, an antiviral herbal remedy made from black elderberry (available from Revital; 0800 252875) to support both the children’s immune systems through the winter and through their vaccinations. Unlike most herbal remedies, this has a nice blackcurrant flavour and so is easy to give to kids. Use as directed on the bottle.
Your question is timely too because Neal's Yard Remedies, the herbal and homeopathic specialists, will be running a series of vaccination workshops for parents at selected high street shops throughout the whole of March.
Attendance at the two hour workshop costs just £5, which includes free advice from on-site homeopathic experts and the cost of a new booklet called MMR - Understanding Your Choices, written by homeopath Lara Sussman to help parents through the minefield of vaccinations and their impact on children’s health. For details of the workshop closest to you, call 020 7627 1949 or visit Neal's Yard Remedies online.
