Soya products and GM

You often recommend eating foods such as miso and tofu to help alleviate PMT and menopausal symptoms but I am concerned these products may be from genetically modified soya. Where can I buy such products which are GM-free?

Maryon Stewart, founder of the Women’s Nutritional Advisory Service (WNAS) says you are right to be worried about eating genetically-modified soya because nobody knows the long-term effects of eating such adulterated foods.

Although almost all the major supermarkets have now promised to remove genetically-modified ingredients from their own-brand labels, Stewart advises making sure you only buy organic soya which be clearly labelled as GM-free.

The WNAS has produced a new booklet called The WNAS Guide from Midlife Onwards which outlines the benefits of a soya-rich diet. It has a menu section, advice on GM products and is available, free of charge, from the Lewes-based group.
