SLS-free toiletries

I want to find shampoos and toothpastes that do not contain sodium laurel sulphate (SLS). Can you suggest anything?

Sodium Laurel Sulphate is used as a detergent, emulsifier and surfactant in industry and as a foaming agent in thousands of cosmetic and personal care products, including toothpastes and shampoos.

The sulphate in SLS has been reported to be contaminated with nitrosamines which, in turn, have been linked to a variety of cancers. What we also know is that these potentially carcinogenic agents are more readily absorbed in greater amounts through the skin than by eating foods such as bacon and ham, which also contain nitrates and nitrites.

As well as being very “drying” to the skin, SLS is so penetrating it has been found, in post mortem examinations, in both brain and liver tissue and since it can also accumulate in eye tissue, where it has been linked with cataracts, you are making a wise choice seeking an alternative to those conventional cosmetics that include it.

Check out the range of personal hygiene and skincare products from The Green People Company, which includes a number of SLS-free shampoos and toothpastes for adults and kids alike. For a catalogue, call 01444 401444 or visit Green People online.
