Skin graft scars
Nine years ago, following a burns injury, my son had skin grafts on his left shoulder and arm. He is very conscious of the scars and has been teased and bullied because of them. His specialist has suggested further skin grafts to try and improve the appearance but I wondered if any alternative remedy could achieve a better result?
There is no miracle remedy that is going to make the skin grow back as new but there are herbs and supplements which can help to fade scarring and which will reduce the lividity of new scars if your son does undergo more surgery.
I have written often about Rosa Mosqueta, an essential oil made from pressed rosehip seeds and originally developed to treat wrinkles, but another substance called methyl sulphonyl methane or MSM can also help.
Again, it was formulated to treat something else (musculo-skeletal problems, especially arthritis) but has been found by clinical practitioners, including surgeons, to facilitate the healing of both internal and external scarring following surgery.
Since the problem is making life so difficult for your son, you might also like to investigate a new treatment, which has only been approved in the UK for pain relief, but which can also help reduce scarring. Kosmed - which stands for Cosmic Medicine Device - was first developed to keep Russian astronauts in tip-top condition. The device looks like a slim, TV remote control and the idea is that it sends a signal to the brain which then triggers the body to finish the healing job it started. Treatments costs from £25 per session. For more details call 08700-780554.
*Rosa Mosqueta costs £9.99 for 20ml. To order call 01273-570987. Higher Nature (01435-882880) makes a good MSM cream, which you can massage into the affected areas.
