Relora as an alternative to Kava kava
Relora as an alternative to Kava kava

Can you tell me what is going on with Kava Kava and why is has been voluntarily withdrawn from sale? I found it to be the single most effective anti-anxiety remedy and an excellent alternative to alcohol for calming the nerves. What can I use instead?

Although you will find a handful of stalwarts still selling it - and remember, they are not breaking the law by doing so - Kava Kava has disappeared from most healthstore shelves following as yet unproven fears that it could be linked with liver toxicity.

In recent years, Kava Kava (or Calmer Calmer as it should have been called) had captured the collective imagination to such an extent it was rapidly becoming the top-selling remedy in Europe. What was bizarre is that despite its popularity worldwide, the only country to highlight suspected side-effects was Germany.

As I reported at the time, there were 29 cases where liver toxicity was suspected and of those, 28 users admitted they were taking other medication too. What this means is that it was factually incorrect to state kava kava causes liver toxicity. It does not and you could safely carry on using it as long as you were not mixing it with anything else.

That said, if you still want an alternative, try Relora, the new anti anxiety supplement made from an extract of the magnolia tree. I first recommended this remedy in May and since then, sales have gone ballistic in America where it is also being promoted as a weight-loss agent.
