Recurrent Thrush
Recurrent Thrush

I have suffered from recurrent thrush since the birth of my second child, four years ago. I have been tested for diabetes which has been ruled out but swabs show that I do have a yeast infection. I am looking for a safe remedy that does not have side-effects.

I am going to recommend two remedies that you can safely use together to try and not only eliminate your current infection but prevent the recurrences that can make life a misery for sufferers.

The first is a nutritional supplement called Tanalbit that is new to the UK market and which contains condensed plant tannins that will help rid the digestive tract of the organisms responsible for this infection. Unlike other candida remedies I have recommended in the past, the active agents in this supplement do not destroy these organisms which can lead to other side-effects, including skin eruptions, but rather work through the system to stop them multiplying and flush them out.

Tannins are present in the normal diet and are natural substances that lend flavour, colour and even protection to plants. The redwood tree, for instance, contains tannins in its bark which act as a shield against fungus and disease.

Since you are embarking on a flush out, you need to follow a strict regimen of taking nine capsules daily. You should see a clear improvement within two weeks but if your condition is chronic, you may need to continue for up to eight weeks. This does make this an expensive route to take but if the recurrent infections have been making life difficult, it will be worth the cost and the effort to eliminate it once and for all.

The second remedy, called Topida, is a topical anti-fungal spray from the polular Salcura range of colloidal skin treatments which you can use to soothe irritated skin and affected areas. Since both remedies are available exclusively to Victoria Health (0800 413596) you will need to mail order them over the phone or internet. Tanalbit, which is made by Intensive Nutrition Inc costs £19.95 for 60 capsules. Topida costs £9.99 for a 50ml spray.
