Raynaud's and verrucas
I have bad circulation and suffer from both Raynaud’s disease and persistent verrucas. I wondered if the two might be linked but in any event, could you recommend something to boost both circulation and immunity to get rid of this virus?
Natural health practitioners will tell you that a truly holistic approach to the body makes no distinction between different parts or systems. The digestive system, for instance, is as linked to the immune system as the heart is to the lungs and so since your instinct is telling you something is not quite right, I would follow that hunch and see a qualified practitioner.
For a comprehensive and holistic approach, it would be hard to beat Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) whose better practitioners will leave no stone unturned to get past the symptoms you complain of, to the root of the problem.
This is a complex system of medicine that combines diagnostic techniques such as pulse and tongue reading, with hands-on bodywork, such as acupuncture, and a highly sophisticated approach to herbal medicine where it is not unusual for a remedy to combine 16 or more different herbs. In other words, it is not for the faint-hearted or those who fancy turning their hand to healing.
Acupuncture, for example, is so effective that in recent trials, it was shown to help increase bone density in post-menopausal women diagnosed with osteoporosis when administered alongside calcium and vitamin D supplements. I know this is not relevant to your condition but it demonstrates just how impressive this technique is, in the right hands. As it happens, my favourite immune-boosting herb is a Chinese one; astragalus which, since it is an adaptogen, will help boost immunity and circulation. Solgar’s full potency Astragalus costs £15.89 for 100 capsules. To find local stockists, call 01442-890355 and take 1-3 a day.
Seredrin, a combination of Ginkgo Biloba leaf extract and Phytosome, has just been evaluated in a clinical trial organised by the Raynaud's and Scleroderma Association. The trial looked at the Effect of Treatment With (Seredrin) Ginkgo Biloba Phytosome In Primary Raynaud's Phenomenon. The clinical study suggested that ginkgo may have a role to play in the treatment of peripheral vascular disease.
