Psoriasis in the summer
Psoriasis in the summer

Like many other psoriasis sufferers, I am dreading summer and the thought I am going to have to take my clothes off. I usually apologise in advance for what people are going to see and keep my T-shirt on when I swim. There must be something I can do to put a stop to this. Help!

I have been hearing good reports of an unusual approach to psoriasis that relies on using two little-known African-sourced products, both of which I have written about before but not in connection with this skin condition.

Themba, (which is an African word for “hope”) is a topical ointment made from the African Kigelia or “sausage” tree; so called because the fruits hang down from the branches looking like sausages. African healers use this for a range of skin complaints, including eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis. You will need to apply this cream to affected areas both morning and night.

Simba is another African supplement, this time made from the African potato tuber plant which is used to boost the immune system and since there is clearly a link between immunity and psoriasis, this would explain why this novel approach appears to be producing such good results.

Combine the two, and you have a very excellent chance of clearing your skin sufficiently to not have to worry about taking your clothes off this summer.

You can mail order both products from The Little Herbal Company on 01484 685100. Themba, which includes lavender, aloe vera, calendula and vitamin E costs £11.95 plus £1 p&p. Simba is £24.50 for one month’s supply plus £2 p&p. This is a small, specialist company so be patient if it takes a while to get through to make your order.
