Anxiety attacks and flower essences
I have recently suffered from a series of mild anxiety attacks and wondered if there are any oils or essences I can use to help me?
You can easily (and safely) use the Bach flower essences to help address the emotional reasons behind these episodes. All flower essences work on what practitioners call an energetic or vibrational level, which means they tackle emotional problems that trigger physical symptoms.
The two individual essences you definitely need are Aspen and Honeysuckle. The first is prescribed for people who suffer panic attacks, the second is said to help “dissolve” the memories that may be making them a recurrent theme. What this means is that if, for example, you have an attack in the supermarket, you may worry that you will have another attack when you go back to shop and this fear is often enough to prompt another episode.
Bach flower essences could not be easier to use. You simply dissolve four drops of your chosen remedies in a glass of water, four times a day and take them first thing in the morning, before lunch, before supper and last thing at night.
They are preserved in brandy, so if you dislike this taste or want to avoid alcohol, dissolve them in hot water instead, which will evaporate the brandy away. You should also keep a bottle of the best-selling Rescue Remedy in your handbag since this includes Star of Bethlehem, a remedy that can be used in emergencies to help you overcome the shock of an attack.
Bach flower essences are on sale in all good health stores but, as ever, for best and lasting results, you should consult a practitioner specialising in your condition. Lots of naturopaths have trained in flower essences too since they are such a useful adjunct for other treatments. Contact The British Naturopathic Association (01458-840072) for a local referral.
