Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
I have been plagued by pelvic inflammatory disease for the last seven years and have three awful operations. My doctors says I should now have a total hysterectomy but I am afraid of being in hospital. Can you suggest a book or an organisation that can help me find an alternative?
I have heard practitioners argue that hysterectomy should only ever be the solution if a woman has a malignant cancer which would, of course, exclude the vast majority of women who have hysterectomies for other reasons, including fibroids, uterine prolapse and a condition called endometriosis. If you want to delve more deeply into this viewpoint, read The Hysterectomy Hoax by Dr Stanley West. His views may antagonise conventional practitioners but the author who is a medically-trained doctor and chief of reproductive endocrinology and infertility at St Vincent’s Hospital in New York has impeccable credentials.
You may also like to invest in a copy of What Your Doctor May NOT Tell You About Menopause (Warner Books) by John R. Lee MD. Again, the author is an American medical doctor who has won worldwide respect for his work with natural hormone replacement.
Dr Lee, who has now retired from practice, explains, for example, the importance of the vaginal mucous in keeping pelvic infections at bay. Normal vaginal mucous is the result of a proper balance between natural hormones and nutrients such as betacarotenes, vitamins E and C, vitamin B6, and the minerals zinc and magnesium. Any upset in the balance of any of these factors may lie at the root of your repeated infections but since this is a complex picture, you will benefit more from a professional consultation with a qualified practitioner than from adopting a DIY treatment programme.
