Parasite infection

My 26-year-old daughter is an international athlete. Two years ago, while competing in Korea, she developed stomach problems and ever since then, she’s been intolerant of dairy products. She’s now losing weight and I wondered if there was some way she could break this cycle within her body.

Roz Kadir, a specialist in sports nutrition and a consultant to a premier league rugby team says she suspects your daughter may have picked up some parasite infection or developed a bacterial overgrowth whilst in Korea and that her intolerance of dairy products is just one symptom.

To find out exactly what is the problem is, Kadir suggests your daughter arranges for a nutritionist to organise a Comprehensive Digestive stool analysis test. This costs £150 for a three-day stool analysis and she can also ask that a gut permeability test be carried out at the same time to find out just how much damage this infection has caused to the digestive tract.

It is likely she is now suffering from a condition known as Leaky Gut, which is responsible for her dairy intolerance. What happens is that the tiny holes which perforate the intestinal lining and which act as a filter allowing important nutrients to pass into the bloodstream but keeping toxins and undigested food particles out have enlarged, following infection, and are no longer as selective as they should be about what gets through.

Aloe Vera juice can help. It is high in substances called mucopolysaccharides, which can soothe and heal the lining of the digestive tract. I recommend the Forever Young product by Nature’s Choice. You can mail order this on 0181-944 5584. Your daughter should drink a quarter of a glass every morning and again in the evening.
