Natural energy boosters
I really enjoy the party season, especially New Year’s Eve but I have a big work project starting on January 7th and want to have my wits about me so I can improve my shot at promotion later in the year. I’ve read about lots of natural energy boosters but which do you think is the best?
Adaptogens are herbs which work in the body to enhance the performance of each individual system (i.e. immune system, reproductive system, circulatory system) and many of those plants that do this, such as Siberian ginseng and Schisandra, have become well known.
The way they work, in simple terms, is to make the body more sensitive to lower levels of stress hormones than would normally be needed to get a better performance. Adaptogens also enhance the utilisation of glucose - the body’s own fuel for energy.
What is less well known - and this was once regarded as a state secret in the USSR - is that, according to Russian scientists investigating performance and stamina among their most elite athletes, some of these adaptogenic herbs are synergistic with each other which means they are even more powerful if you combine them and take them together.
A synergistic formulation developed for Russia’s Olympic athletes and cosmonauts combined Siberian ginseng, Hawthorn extract, Schisandra, Manchurian Thorn Tree and Echinpanax Elatium - a combination that to my knowledge is not yet available commercially here.
Until it is, one of the most important adaptogenic herbs for males is the anti-stress East European herb, Tribulus terrestris, which is now on sale in the UK. In clinical trials, healthy males who took 750mg a day for five days were found to have a 40% increase in testosterone; the key anti-stress and performance-boosting hormone in men.
