Natural appetite suppressants
Although I eat a healthy diet, I am not able to spend quite as much time as I used to exercising and I am getting fat (and old!) Are there any natural appetite suppressants you can recommend or do I have to survive on salads and rabbit food?
Sadly, there is no getting away from the health triangle that links what you eat and how much exercise you do with your body shape and since I have yet to see a fat runner, I have just invested in a ridiculous-looking pair of trail running shoes. My weight crept up over the winter when I was spending hours at my desk writing a new health book and, with 40 on the horizon, I have had to recognise that the odd gentle yoga stretch is not going to shift it.
Trail running, where you run on soft ground over fields, through wood and pasturelands is a much better fat-burning option than pounding the pavements or being stuck in a sweaty gym. It burns more calories (148 per mile) than running on a hard surface (123 per mile) and, once you get into your stride, it takes on a meditative quality making a good stress-buster too.
There are specific formulations for weight loss but the only one I can recommend since I am now using it is the seemingly bizarre combination of a liquid whey concentrate called Molkosan and kelp supplements. Perhaps not so bizarre when you learn that iodine-rich kelp is a natural appetite suppressant, which can also jump-start a sluggish metabolism and whey is a non-fat protein that is popular with bodybuilders.
