Nad's to remove hair
I am 21 and have been taking Dianette for the past eight months to lighten superfluous hair on my body and face. So far, I have not noticed any improvement. Also, I am uneasy about taking synthetic hormones. Are there any natural alternatives that could reduce or soften the hair on my body and face? I know this is not life-threatening but it causes me great distress.
Your letter coincided with my recent trip to the UK’s annual Natural Products show at Olympia where I came across details of an Australian natural hair-removing product that is going to be the answer to a lot of women’s prayers, including, I suspect, yours.
Nad’s is a natural hair-removing gel which contains honey, fructose, vinegar, molasses and lemon juice, as well as some other secret agents. It looks like green, sticky toffee which you spread thinly over the area you want to treat. If you are doing your legs, for example, you would use a small butter knife. Otherwise, there is an applicator included.
This coating then melts with your own body heat and you use the cotton fabric supplied to strip off the unwanted hair. Suitable for use on the legs, arms, armpits, bikini lines, the chest and the back, it is such a gentle procedure that when the hair does grow back, it is softer and lighter each time.
Nad’s is also currently Australia’s fastest-selling personal care product. It is the brainchild of a Sydney-based mother, Sue Ismiel, who wanted to find a natural hair-removing product for her young daughters to use on their arms and legs. After finding there was nothing on the market that was suitable for children to use and painless with it, she made her own formula and named it after her eldest daughter, Nadine. This year, her homemade kitchen potion will have a turnover in excess of $7 million.
Superfluous hair can also be a sign of a condition called Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) which affects one in five women and which I have written about many times. The excess hair is the result of too much testosterone being produced by the body, but you can use adaptogenic herbs which naturally rebalance the hormones to remedy this. Agnus castus is one of the best.
