Myrrh for mouth ulcers
Myrrh for mouth ulcers

I regularly suffer from mouth ulcers and have now more or less given up asking the doctor to help. I’ve been told there is nothing I can do to prevent or cure them and it’s true that all the medicines I have used have had no effect. Antiseptic mouth washes have made no difference either. Can you suggest something alternative?

Spot the seasonal topicality when I recommend a substance that every child who has taken part in a school nativity play this month will have heard of; not gold, and not frankincense but myrrh which is the traditional remedy for mouth and gum problems.

It has excellent wound-healing properties and so to make your own, more effective healing mouthwash, simply dilute 4ml of myrrh tincture with a glass of warm water and swish around the mouth, 2-3 times a day. (This treatment will also help alleviate and prevent gingivitis or gum disease.)

This herb really is a gift. It has a high concentration of chemicals called sesquiterpenes, which also help stimulate the hypothalamus or “master gland” of the body which controls all other systems. Myrrh is also effective against impetigo, which is wide-spread in susceptible children at this time of the year and can help control fungal infections such as candida. If you enjoy aromatherapy, you can use it in massage treatments or simply burn the essential oil to not only lift your mood but to promote increased spiritual awareness over Christmas.
