Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Could you please give me information about Manual Lymphatic Drainage and suggest any registered training institutes which run courses in this technique.
The last time I had this treatment, I lay on the couch with my legs swathed in what looked like enormous plastic leggings thinking about the Prime Minister’s wife, Cherie Blair, who was in the room next door having the same thing done. (She is much prettier in real life than in photos and has a glowing skin which regular drainage treatments probably helps her maintain.)
The lymph system is twice as large as the blood circulatory system. It transports the body’s waste from the tissues into the circulation so it can be eliminated by the kidneys and the bowel. It also transports some hormones and nutrients. It can become sluggish and blocked, which leads to an accumulation of lymph in the body’s tissues and to a deterioration in general health.
Traditionally, in this country, manual lymphatic drainage - which stimulates this system through gentle massage - was left to the beauty therapists. On the continent and in Australia, it is considered a complementary therapy in its own right. If you are keen to train, I would contact The College of Naturopathic & Complementary Medicine (01342-410505) which runs a four weekend training course that costs £295.
