HRT replacement

I am in my late fifties and have always been fit and well. I had been happily taking HRT for six years until last year, when I came off it after deciding the risks could outweigh the benefits. I am now suffering the kind of aches and pains that my contemporaries complain of, and while my doctor has ruled out any serious inflammatory condition, I want to take something that makes me feel as well as I used to. What can you recommend?

One of the herbal remedies I often recommend is Meno-Herbs which is specifically formulated for both peri- and post-menopausal women. The reason I have not written about it recently is that I have been waiting for the new generation formulation to come off the production line and the good news is that it is now here in the UK.

There is no point searching the internet for clinical trials proving the efficacy of either the original Meno-Herbs or this new upgraded formulation (Meno-Herbs 2), which has been devised by a pharmacist and which has been in research and development for two years, because there are none. However, the anecdotal evidence from women who already use this as an alternative to HRT is so good that, as with all things that actually work, its popularity has come about through word-of-mouth, i.e. women telling other women that it works.

As well as the herbs in the original formulation, including hormone-balancing agnus castus and the uterine tonic, raspberry leaf, the new active agent in Meno-Herbs 2 is protykin; a high potency extract from the root of a plant called Polygonum cuspidatum that is widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This extract is rich in plant phyto-oestrogens which will help manage the symptoms of menopause, including hot flushes and mood swings.

For the very best results, take Meno-Herbs 2 alongside Regulate; one of the brilliant new T3 (Therapy To Go) plant essences which, again, has been formulated to help rebalance hormones. Unlike the supplement, these do not provide a therapeutic dose of the botanicals they are formulated from but rather, as with the Bach and other flower essences, are said to work on an energetic level.

You can mail order the new Meno-Herbs 2 (£14.95 for 90 tablets; take two daily) and T3 Regulate (£6.95 for 30ml, take as directed on the bottle) from specialist supplier, Victoria Health on 0800 413596.
