Head lice treatment for sensitive skin
My six-year-old daughter has very sensitive skin and so although she keeps getting re-infected with head lice, I do not want to use any of the commercial head lice treatments that may contain harmful chemicals. Are there any alternatives that work?
Although I was happy using the Neem oil and shampoo, which I wrote about earlier this year, my four-year-old daughter disliked the smell so we have now switched to an equally effective system called The Biz Niz, which relies on (and thus smells of) tea tree oil.
Although it contains no organophosphates, it does include the foaming agent sodium laureth sulphate, which is a chemical agent. I am, however, still happy with the switch since we rarely use the shampoo and mostly use the “leave-in” conditioner, which does not contain this agent and which is made from bug-repelling lavender, citronella and eucalyptus as well as hair-conditioning rosemary oil. Having made the switch, I get fewer complaints about the smell and we still have no nits!
*The Biz Niz Tea Tree shampoo costs £7.95 for 250ml. The Biz Niz conditioner is £7.95 for 100ml. Both products are available on 01273-625988. To ward off head lice, apply a little of the conditioner and massage into the scalp and dry hair everyday.
