Glucosamine and Turmeric for arthritis
My mother has been diagnosed with arthritis in her hip and lower back. She is having physiotherapy at the moment but I was wondering would collagen be a help for her and if so what distributor would you recommend?
Collagen is an important joint-supporting agent and is often included in combination supplements to help improve joint flexibility. That said, the supplement I am recommending combines a high dose of glucosamine not with collagen, but with anti-inflammatory turmeric - which is the herbal remedy I used when I wrenched my shoulder badly last year.
The glucosamine in this particular brand is sourced from corn (maize) making this a good alternative for vegetarians, vegans and anyone allergic to shellfish, which is often present in other joint formulations.
The active agent in turmeric is curcumin; the chemical that gives this spice its distinctive yellow colouring and it is this component that is reported to work as well as prescription cortisone drugs in helping relieve acute cases of inflammation but with no risk of toxicity and no side effects.
Windmill Vitamins’ Vegeflex Maximum Strength Glucosamine (1500mg) is available exclusively from Victoria Health (0800 413596). It costs £19.95 for 120 capsules. Take two a day.
