Glandular Fever
My sister, aged 17, has been diagnosed with glandular fever. She has had a course of antibiotics, which she has now finished. Her doctor has told her to drink plenty of fluids, eat sensibly and rest up. She is at college and busy doing work experience but she is tired all the time. What do you suggest?
If your sister lives in Cheltenham too, then the good news for you both is that one of the country’s best independent health stores is in the city - where you will be able to buy the four energy-boosting remedies I am going to recommend to help her get back on her feet.
The Cheltenham Nutrition Centre (01242 514150), which is run by David Galpin and his wife, is excellent, not least because both the owners and the staff they employ actually know what they are doing and what they are selling - which means you can confidently pick their brains and walk away knowing more about what you are buying and why.
The four remedies your sister will need are; elderberry, magnesium, malic acid and NADH (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) but if budget is a consideration, and she can only afford one remedy, the most important of the four is elderberry because this herb has been shown to help recovery from viral infections - including the insidious Epstein-Barr virus which has been linked with Chronic Fatigue and Glandular Fever.
Preliminary, but uncontrolled, trials suggest a combination of higher doses of magnesium (600mg) and malic acid (2,400ng) can help boost energy levels. The latter is a naturally occurring organic acid, which plays a critical role in the production of ATP – the energy that fuels the entire body.
