Genital wart treatment
I have recently been diagnosed with genital warts and so am interested in finding any alternative treatments for this condition.
Controlled clinical trials are currently underway in London testing the efficacy of a natural treatment combining folic acid with a little-known Asian mushroom supplement called Coriolus versicolor.
As ever with such trials, it follows highly encouraging preliminary findings which suggest the combination of these two remedies will work to trigger the body’s own immune system to eradicate the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) which is responsible for a range of conditions; from cervical cancer to warts, both genital and the everyday ones people get elsewhere on the body.
The good news is that if Coriolus can wipe out the more virulent HPV strains that do cause cervical cancer, it should also be able to wipe out the less harmful ones responsible for genital and other warts making this a supplement you should certainly be aware of. In their preliminary trials, researchers used six x 500mg tablets a day for the first 15 days and then cut back to three tablets a day, all taken with food.
Folic acid, of course, is better known as the supplement pregnant women take to help prevent neural tube defects in the developing embryo. It is present in foods, including broccoli, beans and meat, but in this natural form, it is 40% less bioavailable than when sourced from supplements. The typical therapeutic dosage is 400mcg (micrograms) a day.
You can mail order Coriolus and Folic Acid from Revital (0800 252875). The Lamberts range provides the correct dosage of Folic acid and £3.75 for 100 tablets/Coriolus is £17.50 for 90 x 500mg capsules.
