Fungal infection that reappears
My husband has a bad fungal infection of the skin, which he seems to have been chasing around his body for the past nine months. He used Canesten cream, which worked - but when he stopped, the infection reappeared. He has tried various tea tree creams but the infection always comes back.
On a recent trip to the laboratory and Swiss mountain home of the pioneering late Swiss naturopath, Alfred Vogel - founder of the Bioforce herbal company - I picked up a bottle of a herbal remedy called Spilanthese olceracea, which is formulated specifically for fungal infections.
Having seen and then tasted the fresh leaves of this herb which originates from Africa, I find it an easy one to remember because it kind of fizzes on the tongue (remember that extraordinary 1970s sweet, Space Dust?) before numbing it slightly. This action has made is a popular ingredient in natural mouthwashes and toothpastes but it is also very good at beating a variety of fungal complaints. You can either take it internally as a tincture, swab the affected area with it, or - for a two-pronged attack - do both.
To learn more about Alfred Vogel, who travelled the world for over 50 years collecting natural remedies from indigenous tribes and who was really responsible for bringing echinacea from the Native American Indian tribes to Europe, read his groundbreaking book, The Nature Doctor, which was first published in 1952 but has recently been revised and reissued by Mainstream Publishing in paperback, £12.99.
Spilanthese is not available in the UK, however you can mail order it direct from the company that maintains the naturopathic legacy of A.Vogel on 0041-71-3356611.
