Freeze-dried blue-green algae
Freeze-dried blue-green algae

I have been looking for freeze-dried capsules of a blue-green algae (organic if possible) which I believe is sourced from a lake in Canada. I’ve had no luck with my local health shops, can you help? I understand this could help with my eczema.

Blue-green algae is an excellent dietary source of B vitamins, iron and other minerals; in fact one of the better sources of iron for humans since it comes in a form that is highly bioavailable (i.e. the body can absorb and utilise it.)

Since eczema is an often complicated and multi-factored condition; by which I mean there are usually several, not just one cause, you need to do some more homework to learn how to alter your diet and lifestyle to bring it under control, if not eradicate it all together. I’ve written about eczema many, many times so click here for more ideas but please do not think the algae will work alone.

You need to think of the algae, if you decide to start taking it, as a good dietary support and then investigate topical remedies that suit your particular type of eczema to apply on a daily basis to those areas most affected.

I have tracked down freeze-dried algae capsules for you which, like most of the better products on the market, is sourced from the Klameth Lake in Oregon, North America. It is not organic - but then I have not come across an organic algae product and am not sure how one could be certified as such. E3 Live costs £24.95 for 90 veggie capsules and is available from the specialist supplier, Revital (0800 252875).
