Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

Earlier this year I was diagnosed as suffering from multiple sclerosis. I have always tried to eat healthily but I am even more anxious to look after myself properly now. I am 37 and married with two children. I don’t smoke and drink very little alcohol. I suffer from IBS and watch my diet very carefully. What else do you suggest?

I wouldn’t take potluck with a condition as serious as yours but would consult a qualified practitioner to determine the best course of complementary treatment. Agnes Kernan, a former intensive care nurse and qualified homeopath who now works solely with complementary medicine also specialises in something called Bio-resonance. She will use a specially devised computer programme to investigate the underlying root cause of your problem before suggesting particular remedies.

She would, she says, look for a multi-layered explanation. Toxicity, especially from mercury dental fillings, may be a contributory factor, as may hidden food intolerance, emotional upsets and nutritional deficiencies, especially of the essential fatty acids and of minerals.

A lot of people with MS also report significant improvement once they start drinking Kombucha tea. This is, in fact, not a tea at all but a large, flat mushroom-shaped fungus packed with a combination of health-promoting lichen, beneficial bacteria, and yeast that has long been used in Asia as a natural energy and immune system booster. It is also said to be effective against ME, Chronic Fatigue, arthritis, eczema, psoriasis, digestive disorders, and even cancer.

*Agnes Kernan can be contacted on 01923-331331. For details of the Kombucha Tea Network, send an SAE to the Kombucha Tea Network UK, PO Box 1887, Bath BA2 8YA. The network is run by the husband-and-wife co-authors of a book describing all the benefits of the tea. Kombucha Tea For Your Health and Healing is published by Gateway Books, £9.95.
