Deep Vein Thrombosis Prevention
Please help me get in training for a long haul flight to Australia next year. My legs are “heavy” and fat at the best of times and I don’t react well to short haul flights so I am dreading it. Do you recommend I take aspirin to help prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis and if so, how much?
I suggest you invest in two remedies – neither of which is aspirin, which can, if you are susceptible, irritate the stomach lining - and travel with both of them to alleviate your concerns on the return flight home.
The name of the first remedy tells you just what it will do. Revital’s Leg Care Synergy is a mix of massaging essential oils, which you simply rub into tired legs. It contains 11 essential oils, including circulation-boosting horsechestnut, and costs £9.99 for 30ml so take four bottles with you to cover both flights. You can, of course, use this in your normal life since you suffer that feeling of heavy legs.
The second remedy is Bioharmony’s Brain Boost which, although I have recommended it before to support mental functioning, also contains all the herbs you would want on your wish list to reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis; all in the correct therapeutic dosages.
The first of these is, of course, gingko biloba - and two capsules a day will provide the 120mg that have been shown to boost microcirculation in the outer limbs including arms and legs. It also contains one of my favourite Ayurvedic herbs, Gotu Kola, which can help prevent water retention, which is otherwise inevitable on such a long flight. Brain Boost costs £21.99 for 60 veggie capsules so buy two bottles and start taking the supplement a month before you fly. You can mail order both remedies from Revital (0800-252875).
