Dark circles under the eyes
I am developing dark circles under the eyes and while I read somewhere that drinking orange juice would help since the vitamin C can stimulate collagen, I cannot tolerate citrus juice so that won’t work for me. Can you suggest something else?
As you know, the skin is like a mirror to what is going on inside the body and so both bags and dark circles under the eyes will benefit as much from what you put into your body as what creams you use on the outside.
Everything we ingest passes through the liver which is why this is often the seemingly unrelated organ that we start a natural treatment programme with and in this case, I would suggest taking rosemary internally. This herb is not only an excellent circulatory stimulant and antioxidant, but also works in the body to decongest the liver and thus improve overall skin vitality.
The eye gel to use topically is an organic silica one from Health Harmony Formulations (HHF). Silica or silicon (it is the same thing) is a trace mineral which the body uses to make and maintain healthy connective tissue and so this gel will help improve the elasticity of the under-eye area.
I have been researching Ayurvedic beauty treatments for my next book and one of the most intriguing is the use of vitamin C-rich raw potatoes. You simply grate a large potato and squish the pulp and juices into a poultice which you apply and leave on the skin overnight. The idea is that this simple remedy creates a nourishing skin food to regenerate skin tissue at the cellular level and leave the skin looking clear and revitalised.
*100 x 400mg rosemary capsules which you can take internally cost £12.95. HHF’s organic silica anti-ageing eye gel costs £25.99. Both these remedies are available from Revital (0800-252875).
