Cracked and dry skin

I suffer badly from cracked and dried skin on my heels and my husband has the same problem with chapped lips. Is there anything that will help us through winter?

I have a fantastic double-whammy that will work for both you and your husband this winter. Last month I was introduced to Un-petroleum lip balm for chapped lips by an American “aesthetician” on a research trip to Arizona, and the reason I am raving about it is that not only does it work, but it avoids all those nasty petroleum-based agents that other balms include and then mask with even more unappetising ingredients.

Un-petroleum is made up of pure plant oils, natural waxes and skin-nourishing vitamin E to protect and heal the lips. If you buy nothing else off this page, buy this and one for your friends. It costs just £1.50 per stick and is available from Victoria Health (0800-413596).

Cracked Skin Relief from the American natural cosmetics specialists, Derma E, is excellent too. Again, a blend of natural agents, including clove (which it smells of), aloe vera, arnica, and bay leaf oil, I have never found anything that works as quickly or as effectively on both dry and cracked skin.

It costs £11.95 for a 56g pot, which should last several months and is also available from Victoria Health. Both of these products also form part of the Winter Survival Kit from this company. The 10-remedy kit includes elderberry for immune support, a new homeopathic flu remedy that I will write about next week, essential fatty acids, a high dose vitamin C and an anti-stress massage oil. It costs £100 for the entire kit, which should keep the family on its feet through the winter and I’m hoping for one in my Christmas stocking.
