Colonic Hydrotherapy and constipation
My wife has been suffering from severe constipation for five years. We have read that Colonic Hydotherapy would help. What do you think?
One of the very common but hidden consequences of the typical high protein Western diet that most of us eat is an over-production of mucous in the body. This mucous, which lines the smooth membrane surface of the intestinal tract, starts to solidify and build up over the years until it becomes more like a thick, sticky tar.
This build-up can then cause digestive problems, especially constipation, by slowing down peristalsis - the wave-like eliminating action of the gut - and by narrowing the passage through which waste must pass, and so it is this tar that colonic hydrotherapy or irrigation will remove.
For those who feel too faint-hearted to submit to a procedure most people find deeply embarrassing, the good news is that you can use herbs to do the same thing. One of the best products I know of is American. Nutrition Now’s Acidophilus Fiber includes psyllium, slippery elm, wheatgrass, marshmallow and a probiotic in the form of Lactobacillus acidophilus. (A probiotic provides replacement live and beneficial bacteria which promote healthy digestion).
This herbal colon cleanser comes in powder form. Your wife should take one teaspoon, three times a day; and once the problem has cleared, cut back to a daily maintenance dose of just one teaspoon a day. After a course of colonic treatment, herbal or hydotherapy, you need to avoid high fat, high sugar junk foods and make sure the diet includes more natural fibre from fruits and vegetables to prevent the problem happening again.
*Nutrition Now’s Fiber Acidophilus costs £9.95 for 6oz and is only available in the UK from Victoria Health on 0800-413596. A naturopathic treatment always starts with a colon cleanse. To find a naturopath in your area, contact The British Naturopathic Association on 01458-840072.
