Chocolate addiction - how to stop the cravings
Can you suggest anything to stop my addiction to chocolate? I don’t eat other sweet things, but I’ve had a life-long love affair with chocolate - which my dentist has now told me to stop eating. The trouble is, I find it impossible to give up and get through the cravings.
I never believed for one moment that it would work, but a simple tip from an Ayurvedic practitioner demonstrated to me how easy it is to beat these cravings when the balance of taste in your food is correct.
Ayurveda, as you may know, is the ancient Indian ‘science of life’, which combines nutrition, herbalism, yoga, meditation, and massage to maintain the balance of good health. It has become so fashionable you can now buy Ayurvedic ranges in supermarkets - but since you need to know your dosha or ‘energy type’ to work out what you should be taking, a better long-term investment would be to have a proper consultation with a trained and qualified practitioner.
The first thing an Ayurvedic specialist will do is take the pulse in your wrists. What they are looking for are signs that any of the three different energies are out of balance. The theory is that we all have all three energy types – pitta (fire), vata (air) and kapha (earth) - and that in perfect health, these are all balanced. Once you know your type, you can then buy a delicious powdered spice flavouring called a churna that you sprinkle over your food to make sure you are getting all the tastes in a meal that your type needs. It also means you will not suffer from cravings for chocolate or any other sweets. Try it. I promise it works.
*I buy my churna spices from the Maharishi Ayur-Veda range. They cost £4.95 for 50g from the Nutricentre on 0800-587 2290.
