Child with underarm odour problem
Child with underarm odour problem

My nine-year-old granddaughter is a very active child who loves all types of sports. Recently, she has developed an underarm odour problem, which is quite noticeable and is making her feel embarrassed. Can you suggest a solution that will work?

I have been raving these last few weeks about an ingenious new spray range of colloidal formulations incorporating antibacterial, antifungal and anti-itch agents such as tea tree and manuka, and you need to get one of these for your granddaughter.

The specific spray you need is Salcura’s Activaid, which she should spray underarm before applying a good natural deodorant, which actually works. As it happens, I have had lots of letters in recent months asking for advice about paraben-free deodorants and the one I use is Lavera’s organic calendula and aloe vera deodorant roll-on, which not only looks like any conventional deodorant, but also works just as well without any of the nasty chemical preservatives. It also smells lovely.

The way to think of this excellent Salcura range is of a protection treatment for the skin before you apply what you normally use and in this instance, since underarm odour is caused by an excess of bacteria in the sweat, it will stop this embarrassing problem recurring. Salcura is safe for children to use and the range even includes fabulous, natural products for pets, which I shall write about next week.

You can mail order both Activaid, which costs £9.99 for 100ml and the alcohol-free Lavera deodorant, which costs £5.75 for 50ml from the specialist supplier, Victoria Health (0800 413596).
