Chilblains on the fingers and toes
Chilblains on the fingers and toes

I’m only 21 but have been suffering from chilblains on my fingers and toes for the last few winters. I’ve been told garlic could help but so far, this has not worked. Have you any other suggestions?

Chilblains can be a sign of low levels of calcium and silica and if you suspect these nutrients might be lacking in your diet, you can take both in the form of biochemical tissue salts which bypass the digestive system for rapid absorption. To mail order, call the NutriCentre (0800-587 2290). Take as directed on the bottle. Ginger will also help and is the key active ingredient in a supplement called Zinaxin, which is more widely used to reduce pain and inflammation by osteoarthritis sufferers. It costs £14.95 for 60 tablets and is also available from the NutriCentre. Take two a day.

One of the best ancient herbs for warming the body from the inside out and helping prevent this and other circulatory problems is Frangipani. I was given a fabulous Frangipani bath essence for Christmas made by a little known but fabulous company called Hardys. You can now mail order this wonderful range from Ancient Roots on 020 8421 9877. The 225ml bath essence costs £11.
