Chapped and sore hands
After giving up a big career and fat city salary, I now earn my living as a landscape gardener. I can honestly say I have never been happier but I am worried by my hands which are permanently chapped and sore. I’ve spent a fortune on creams to no avail. Are there any alternatives I could try?
Farmacia, the UK’s first pharmacy with on-site complementary therapies and a fantastic range of alternative health products was invited by The Herb Society to formulate a special gardener’s herbal hand balm for the Chelsea Flower Show last year. It contains healing calendula for cuts and grazes, rose and vitamin E and is a brilliant barrier cream. 30ml costs £3.95.
I use the organic lavendar handcream (£4.95 for 60ml) which is very effective for already chapped knuckles but I also like the American Burts Bees range which Farmacia also stocks. Availability can vary but the Hand Salve which contains sweet almond oil, beeswax and rosemary is a must-have for keen gardeners.
