Bulimia and anorexia recovery
Is there anything that can help those of us suffering from anorexia and bulimia? I know these eating disorders put the entire body out of balance. Is there anything that might help?
Although most people still believe these eating disorders to be psychological problems, researchers have now found that sufferers often have chemical imbalances that mirror those of people suffering from clinical depression. In some cases, anorexia has also been linked with a severe zinc deficiency, which is easily remedied by taking a supplement of 50mg a day.
However, I would not attempt a DIY recovery programme with a condition as serious as this. Instead, find a nutritionist or naturopath who can test for deficiencies and help you re-build your nutritional profile back to optimum levels. Contact The British Association of Nutritional Therapists on 0870-6061284. (You will be charged £2 for a referral list.) The British Naturopathic Association on 01458-840072 also holds a list of qualified naturopaths who combine nutrition, herbalism, and homeopathy in their treatment programmes. There is no charge for this referral service.
The Eating Disorders Association runs a nationwide helpline on 01603-621414 -this is manned from 9am to 6.30pm, Mondays-Fridays. You can also visit the website at www.edauk.com.
